Happy June 1st everyone! Summer is officially here and today marks the beginning of Pride Month!
On May 12, 2021, the Maricopa Community Colleges LGBTQ+ Convocation returned after the 2020 event was canceled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Although the spread of the pandemic continues to decrease in the state of Arizona, this year's event was converted to a drive-thru format for health and safety purposes. As students drove thru to receive their stoles, they would be greeted with welcome signs by the Maricopa Community Colleges staff, volunteers, and drag queens. Although we look forward to the event being back in a public environment, the district really put on a great event for the students to celebrate themselves and their accomplishments!
Covering the MCC LGBTQ+ Convocation is always a great time and it was such a joy to reconnect in person and work with the Director of Community Engagement, Deanna Villanueva-Saucedo, and Administrative Assistant, Michele Gama. No other community college district celebrates diversity like Maricopa Community Colleges! Enjoy these highlights and I'll keep you posted on my next blog!
