Here we are! The final day of 2020 and how fitting it lands on a Throwback Thursday! Every memory of your 2020 could be great for #tbt! As I write this blog, I'm about to get on a flight with my girlfriend to Puerto Vallarta to ring in 2021 so I should be putting the finishing touches on packing but I got a few minutes...I think!
As I was getting ready this morning, I happened to look at a picture I have in the bathroom! I had to stop for a minute as I realized that is where I was exactly one year ago today! I was in one of my favorite cities, Miami Florida, ready to ring in 2020! The soon to be the best year of my life, right? How many of you said that to yourselves? Everything started out so good but then came the pandemic in March and it felt like everything stopped! What seemed to be a promising year was replaced by uncertainty!
Since March, we've had to adjust to our new normal of staying home, social distancing, and wearing masks to avoid an enemy that we can't see with the naked eye. As a result, gone were large social events such as sporting events and concerts. As an event photographer, that hurt since many of my upcoming jobs in the spring and early summer were cancelled along with the money I was going to make. I wasn't alone as many other freelancers were, suddenly, without work and many restaurants, bars, and clubs had to restructure their business or completely shut down!
What happened? 2020 was supposed to be the best year! But has 2020 really been that bad?
One of the best statements I've ever heard in my life is, "A clearing for a new possibility!" That's what 2020 was for me and for many others! I grew other areas of my photography, editing, and my audience through many social media outlets!
I'll have more to add in the upcoming weeks but I have to run out the door and board a plane!
Before I leave, I challenge you to reflect on where you and/or your business grew in 2020 and the good things that happened?
Salud,
Matt
Speaking of growth, this is my first blog post! There will be more to come so get used to this;-)
